As per the class discussion, please provide me with three different headlines for the story (article in Question #3) and outline your reasoning(s) and explanation for each. Please ensure you base your answer on the different elements of headlines we spoke about in class. Please go into detail for each. (12 Marks)  

Headline 1:  

“Secrets of Oscars that will change how you think about it.” 

Explanation: 

This headline is effective as it sparks curiosity and also uses power words to appeal the reader. The word “secret” makes people want to learn about it more. It feels like there is some hidden information want this will likely make people want to click and find out about it. The headline also tells the reader that they’ll have a change in perspective after reading the article. Therefore, it promises something informative out of it.  

Headline 2:  

“5 Shocking Reasons Why Oscars Actually Matters More Than You Think.” 

Explanation: 

Using numbers in headlines is an effective strategy as it quickly grabs attention and also makes the content more digestible. A headline that has specific numbers are loved by the readers. It is a way to make the article more enticing for your readers. Numbers are like brain candy which tends to be addictive when it is small and odd numbers. Using numbers in the headlines enhances the scanability.   Odd numbers are often taken as interesting and memorable and our brain tends to prefer odd numbers as it feels more natural. Therefore, this headline is paired with list of why Oscars matters. It gives a promising value to the readers and has a concise, short and clear context.  

Headline 3: 

“Everyone is talking about the Oscar -Here’s why you should too.” 

Explanation: 

This headline is more inclined towards creating a FOMO which encourages the readers to take a step and read it. I believe this headline is a combination of a Fomo and call to action/attention. Oscars is a hot event that many people engage and talk about. It gives an idea of everyone is discussing about it the I should also know it. It creates a curiosity about what things people knowing. Also, this headline promises the readers that there is some interesting content for them which they could be missing out on. It suggests why they should care about the Oscars. Overall, the headline is attention grabbing and makes people wonder what they’re missing out on then, promises to answer the curiosity and encourages them to read.
